GROUP #1
Spec Miata - 19 different drivers have taken the track in Spec Miata this year. #4 Randy Shaw leads #11 Jeff Grabowski by a slim three points (89-86). This class championship battle will begin early on Saturday, right after qualifying. Randy's red #4 Mazda Miata, will be not only race in this group, but in two other groups as well, so the #4 is pretty quick to spot out on the track. But for this battle Jeff Grabowski's blue/grey #11 Mazda Miata will be right up with him. Other cars/drivers to watch out for include Seth Rowley in his #8 baby blue Miata who sits a distant fourth in points (65) and Mike Novak in the #9 silver Miata who sits fifth in points (43). Seth also runs in the ITA class (group #3), and Mike's silver Miata races in ITS in group five, but his wife Kristen will be the one piloting the car.

The Ground Pounders have three class battles to be decided this weekend. ITE - #37 Danny Kellermeyer has a nine point lead over #84 James Bambard (97-88). Danny has been unbeatable in the last few race weekends in his bright yellow Corvette. James' red Corvette will have to stay with Danny for any chance to sneak out the championship from the Waterford Hills veteran. Part timers #13 Todd Lincoln and #14 Dan Jabbori are third and fourth in points with only a single point separating them (22-21). STO - #26 Dorothy Johnson in her white Corvette leads #86 Tony Mac in his black and silver BMW by only two points going into the last race weekend (48-46). Both Dorothy and Tony have broken the class track record this year. Keep an eye on these two. AS - You can write a drama on the American Sedan class this year. Making headlines were three first time winners, spectacular wrecks, and cars not passing tech. Last race weekend had 10 cars show up, and they battled throughout the field. The top three drivers in points have a shot to claim their first AS Championship. #17 Bob Robinson leads #6 Tyler Williams by 7 points and #10 John Grembowski by 10 points (61, 54, 51). Bob's flaming black Camaro will have to keep both Tyler's black Camaro and John's black and silver Firebird behind him. #89 Kris Smith and #15 Steve Hynes made a great showing last weekend in their Ford Mustangs and will battle for wins adding to an already entertaining can't miss race!

Tom flipped his Ford Mustang last weekend, but rumor has it he has an ITB rental for the weekend. Chris' Porsche will only have to finish ahead of Tom in the first class race to claim the championship. #73 Kimi Cordier has a comfortable third place point gap over the battle for fourth place. Her 57 points leads #15 Jim Miller, her Dad #47 Dave Cordier and #88 Bob Hagemann Jr. (46, 44, 43). ITC - #90 Steve Steeb in his Plymouth Arrow leads #39 Kris Smith in his Honda. It is unknown at this time if Kris will be bringing his ITC or AS or both for the race weekend. Steve, like the ITB leader Chris, will only have to finish ahead of Kris in the first class race to clinch the championship. ITS - This battle will require all the calculators possible to determine the champion. #4 Randy Shaw in his red Mazda Miata (yes the same Randy Shaw battling in SM) has a very narrow two point lead over #43 Christian Cook and #46 Steve Djelebian (85, 83, 83). One race will not determine the winner for ITS, it will take both class races. And if Christian proved anything last weekend, it's that it may come down to the last lap. There is also a battle for fourth place in points. #35 Greg Steen and rookie #2 Liz Hammond are only separated by four points (37-33). #28 Mike Ofiara is only four points behind Liz but is not entered for the weekend.
OVERALL
Even though group #3 has no class championships to be determined, that group is full of drivers vying for the Waterford Hills Driver of the Year... or at least in the Top Ten. Currently the 2010 ITA Champion #98 Alex Pagani leads the 2010 EP Champion #7 Bruce Wentzel by one point (158-157). F500 champ #4 Tom Diehm is currently third, 14 points behind Alex with 144 points. Another group three racer, FP #31 John Bartholme is sixth and trails behind ITB point leader #55 Chris Marsh and ITE point leader #37 Danny Kellermeyer (134, 133, 126). Danny's ITE competitor #84 James Bambard is currently seventh with 121 points. The ITS drivers of #46 Steve Djelebian, #43 Christian Cook and #4 Randy Shaw are 8th, 9th and 10th respectively (118, 116, 114). Just outside the Top Ten are SM racer #11 Jeff Grabowski (106), #4 Randy Shaw (he races a lot, 105) and #06 Bob Hofmann (103). Both class and feature races count towards overall points, so you'll have to stay until the last race to determine who will be our top ten drivers at Waterford Hills for 2010.
